Diversity Internships 2019

Summer 2019 Internships

The Center for Digital Research in the Humanities (CDRH) is a leading, internationally recognized digital humanities center that is advancing cultural inquiry for the public good. Our community of scholars invites students from minority serving institutions (MSI) to apply for an internship in the Center. To be eligible, an applicant must be 21 years of age or older at the time of the internship. The internship will be full-time in June and July 2019, and up to four internships will be awarded.

Interns will gain experiences in digital humanities by working directly on diverse cultural heritage digital projects with technologists and faculty on Mondays through Thursdays. The interns will spend Fridays meeting with community representatives, discussing assigned digital humanities readings, learning about the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the city of Lincoln through planned field trips, and sharing digital humanities experiences based on the internship.

While no previous experience in digital humanities or specific technical skills are required, the individual must have a demonstrated love of the humanities and a strong desire to gain relevant computer skills.

During the final week of the internship, interns will submit a short report of their activities and outcomes and complete an evaluation.

Interns will receive a stipend of $2,500 per month.

A completed application consists of:

  • A resumé or CV
  • A 2-page letter of application describing your particular interests or experiences in the humanities, the aspects of DH that most interest you, and the ways you feel you would benefit from this internship
  • Two references from humanities or computer science professors or faculty advisors should be sent directly from these individuals to kwalter1@unl.edu. References should be from professors who are familiar with your scholarship.
  • Applications and references are due to CDRH Co-Director, Professor Katherine Walter, kwalter1@unl.edu, by March 1, 2019.

Awards will be announced by March 21, 2019.
