Nic Swiercek

First year Master's student, History
My research interests lie broadly within twentieth century African-American and urban history. I am particularly interested in comparative social movements, the Black Freedom movement in the urban North and Plains states, the development of interstate highways and mass transit in terms of reconfiguring urban neighborhoods, and early- to mid-twentieth century radicalism. In regard to digital history, I hope to learn and utilize historical GIS mapping in my own future projects.
Future plans: Apply to PhD programs in the fall of 2008.
Projects: The Home Front in the Great Plains During World War II, 1939-1945; Elia Peattie: An Uncommon Woman; Wild Women?: Publicizing the Narratives of Women Homesteaders; Mightier than the Sword: Yellow Journalism, William Brown & the Omaha Riot of 1919.
